Positions (2023) is a multimedia installation that performs a dynamic interplay of visual and audial iterations. The work derives from a collaboration between feminist artist Sue Williams, composer David Bird, and artist-writer Marilyn Allen. The term ‘positions’ is a playful reference to the physical arrangement and socio-political location of the female body in Williams’ paintings and alludes to the perspectival paradigm of collaborative practice. The words sounded in Positions are excerpts from conversations and contemplations on the experience of womanhood, and their repetition and reverberation within the spatial configuration of the installation operates as a metaphor for the agency of collective voicing.
