‘Small Talk, High Heels’ touring exhibition 2006

Texting, a 21st century form of communication which shortcuts normal communication of talking. To explore our dependency and fascination with this technological communication, I recorded every text message I received throughout a period of 12 months, basing a new body of work on the psychological issues related to text messaging. The background against which these portrayed relationships take place, a ‘stage set’, is domestic, the kitchen, living room and the bedroom or in public spaces such as bars, clubs, shopping malls and in the streets.

This work resulted in a solo exhibition Small Talk, High Heels touring 2008 at the Artes Mundi, National Museum & Galleries of Wales; Glynn Vivian Gallery, Swansea; Mostyn, Llandudno, Wales; National Galleries in both Bulawayo and Harare, Zimbabwe and finally in 2008 the Ormeau Baths Gallery Belfast, Ireland.

This exhibition comprised of a large drawing installation (700+ drawings) and a large painting installation (8 paintings @ 244cms x 244cms square).

All exhibitions were accompanied by a series of public talks and there is evidence of the work through Artes Mundi film documentation by BBC Wales 2. The Arts Council of Wales documentation gives evidence of the exhibitions in Africa.
